Planning 3rd Grade 2024 2025: Our Homeschool Weekly Flow
Welcome back to Making Everyday Magic! My name is Shanna, and if you are new here, we are a homeschooling family of four. We are entering our eighth year of homeschooling for the 2024-2025 school year, and we have a seventh grader and a third grader. Today, we are planning 3rd grade! I’m excited to share our plans for third grade for the upcoming homeschool year.

What I Need & How We Work It
When planning our homeschool year, the first step is to bring over our full-year plan. This plan includes all our goals and curriculum details. For example, in our third-grade plan, Math-U-See Delta has 30 lessons. We map out these lessons to fit into our school year. We plan for 32 weeks of instruction but like to schedule for 34 to 36 weeks to allow flexibility for holidays, vacations, and any catch-up time.

What Our Week Looks Like
We follow a four-day school week to keep one day free for fun activities, appointments, or whatever else comes up. We start our week with “Mom and Me Monday,” where we focus on group subjects and any lessons that require intensive mom participation. This tends to be our longest and most favorite school day.
Flow 411
I create what I call a “flow” rather than a strict schedule. A flow outlines the sequence of activities (e.g., first math, then reading) rather than assigning specific times for each task. This flexible approach works best for us.
Here’s how we structure our week:
Mom and Me Monday
- Group Subjects: Activities that involve both kids and require my participation.
Tuesday to Thursday
- Independent Lessons: Subjects like cursive and geography that my third grader can handle on her own.
- Dependent Lessons: Math and spelling, where she needs my help, are spread throughout these days.
How I Balance Two Learners
For our third grader, I start the day with subjects she needs me for and finish with those she can do independently. This helps ensure she gets the support she needs while allowing me to assist her older sister when necessary.
Making the Flow
To create our weekly flow, I use a printable sheet where I list all the subjects and activities. I print this on cardstock and tape it to the back of a clear clipboard, which we use with dry-erase markers. This clipboard hangs in our school cabinet, providing a clear and accessible overview of the week’s plan.

Filling the Flow
Here’s how our third grader’s schedule looks:
Monday
- HiGasfy
- Math
- Dinos 101
- Chemistry
- Texas History
Tuesday to Thursday
- Independent Lessons: Cursive, additional math practice
- Dependent Lessons: Continued work in MCT and spelling
I review the plan and adjust as needed, always keeping flexibility in mind. I prefer to reuse our clipboards each year, though sometimes they need a bit of cleaning up with magic erasers.
