October Ready Simple Changes

Health Updates: Prioritizing Well-being

First on the list is health, where I’ve been making simple but impactful changes. This October, I’m focusing on getting the right vitamins and prioritizing daily stretching. A recent doctor’s visit made me realize the importance of taking care of my body, especially after experiencing some foot pain that turned out to be tight calf muscles. Daily stretches are helping immensely!

Sleep is another big focus. The difference a solid night’s sleep makes is incredible. I feel more productive and energized when I get the rest I need. To aid in this, I’m being mindful of alcohol consumption since it can negatively impact sleep quality. Simple changes like these are making a big difference in my overall health, and they are easy to implement.

I’m also deep into my sourdough journey—baking my own bread, which is both healthier and brings me joy. Additionally, I’m increasing my intake of protein and water to ensure I’m feeling my best.

Scheduling: Creating Time for What Matters

Next up is scheduling. Life gets busy, and it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters. This year, my husband and I are prioritizing more intentional time together, scheduling weekly date nights. These don’t have to be fancy, but they are moments of connection that we’ve come to cherish.

We’re also streamlining our family’s schedule to avoid over-commitment. With kids’ extracurriculars, it’s tempting to keep adding more activities, but we’ve learned that less is more. Instead of running around constantly, we’re focusing on quality time together.

One scheduling change I’m testing is treating my personal work like a full-time job. By setting specific hours and sticking to them, I’m hoping to increase productivity without burnout.

October Ready Simple Changes

Professional Updates: Working Smarter, Not Harder

Professionally, I’m making small tweaks that allow me to work smarter, not harder. One key change has been repurposing content and streamlining processes like handling newsletters and organizing content buckets. This helps me stay focused and make decisions more efficiently.

I’m also batching tasks. For instance, I handle all the back-end work, like writing and editing, at once. This has freed up more time for me to focus on other things, and the result is less stress and more productivity.

Home Changes: Clearing and Cleaning

At home, we’re embracing the idea of decluttering and resetting our space. Every day, we ensure that everything is in its place before bed and before we head out the door. This helps maintain a peaceful environment and reduces chaos.

One fun new routine is tandem cleaning. Instead of cleaning in isolation, we work as a family to tackle rooms together. Not only does this make cleaning faster, but it’s also more enjoyable. Plus, my kids are learning valuable skills along the way, from dusting to vacuuming.

Homeschool Updates: Flexibility is Key

In homeschool, the key change has been embracing flexibility. Instead of sticking to rigid schedules, we’re adapting to what works best for us. For example, we’ve adjusted our Thursday routine to avoid traffic by heading out early and finishing schoolwork at a library or coffee shop. This small change has made a huge difference.

Switching from Math-U-See to Denison Algebra 1 was another simple change with big rewards. It has transformed our homeschool experience, allowing for better understanding and less frustration.
