Mom And Me Monday

What Is Mom And Me Monday?

Let’s keep it real: Mondays are a lot. After a full weekend (that somehow wasn’t relaxing), jumping straight into lesson plans and expectations can feel impossible. That’s exactly why I created Mom And Me Monday.

This is our homeschool tradition, our rhythm, our soft-yet-structured launch into the week—and it has changed everything.

Mom And Me Monday is our dedicated time to:

  • Work through group subjects (think science, history, music, etc.)

  • Tackle anything that’s “mom-heavy” in instruction

  • Reset our mindset for the week

  • Frontload the big stuff so the rest of the week flows

It’s simple homeschool planning with powerful impact.

Why I Created Mom And Me Monday

After nine years of homeschooling, I realized that my energy (and my kids’ focus) is best at the start of the week. So instead of wasting that precious momentum, I flipped the script:

  • We begin Mondays with together time, not solo checklists.

  • We dive into group learning like history and science—but I adjust expectations by grade level.

  • We use Mom And Me Monday to connect, collaborate, and build momentum that carries through the week.

Whether it’s reviewing a science unit, doing a messy experiment, or starting a new read-aloud—we’re doing it together.

How To Start Your Own Mom And Me Monday

You don’t need anything fancy to make this work. Here’s how I plan:

1. Pull Out Your Curriculum Planner

I grab my printable homeschool planner (you can snag it from my site!) and look at everything that:

  • Needs my help

  • Works better as a group

  • Can set the tone for the week

Then I make a dot next to those subjects. Yep—just a little dot. Simple.

2. Use A Visual Template

I drop those lessons into a colorful Canva template and print it. That way, we all see what’s coming and where we’re headed. And it’s not overwhelming—it’s inviting.

3. Adjust Expectations By Age

Same topic, different outputs. My 4th grader may do a worksheet, while my 8th grader writes a short response or explains a concept. Fair, flexible, and functional.

4. Frontload the Week

I schedule all the heavy-lift subjects for Monday. That includes:

  • Science experiments

  • History discussions

  • New music or social studies units

  • Any mom-intensive instruction
This way, the rest of the week can run with less hands-on help from me.

Why Mom And Me Monday Works

It simplifies planning
It reduces stress
It builds connection
It sets a clear tone for the week
It works even when Monday doesn’t

Truth: sometimes Monday is actually Tuesday. Or a holiday. Or a “we didn’t sleep last night” situation. That’s okay. Mom And Me Monday is more of a mindset than a rigid rule.

Even just starting your homeschool day with a focused hour of together time—where you’re sitting down and truly present—can completely shift the energy.

The Best Part? It’s Customizable

You can use Mom And Me Monday however it fits your homeschool:

  • Make it a morning-only routine

  • Use it for project-based learning

  • Include dad or grandparents if they’re around

  • Keep it flexible so it serves your life—not the other way around

For us, it’s the best thing we’ve added to our homeschool in years. My kids know Mondays are our day to come together, get on the same page, and kick off the week without rushing or pressure.
