Wrapping 3rd Quarter: Settling Into Routine, Spring Energy & Planning for Next Year

Okay, so time has hit me like a cinder block in the face.

Somehow, we’ve made it through the bulk of another homeschool year, and here we are—wrapping 3rd quarter of our 2024-2025 homeschool journey. If you’re new here, welcome! We are a homeschooling family of four, currently in our eighth year of making this whole learning-at-home thing work for us.

So much has happened in the last few months, and today, we’re taking a moment to reflect on where we’ve been, how things are going, and what’s ahead as we inch toward the final stretch of the school year.

Last Check-In: Chaos, Catching Up & Settling In

When we last checked in, we were behind—like, “questioning all my life choices” behind. Our schedule was off track, our homeschool routine was in shambles, and life felt like a giant game of catch-up.

Why? Well, let’s recap:
✔️ An absolutely insane kid schedule (that we willingly signed up for, knowing full well it would be nuts).
✔️ Simultaneously selling our house and moving—because apparently, we thrive on chaos.
✔️ A homeschool schedule that had taken a backseat to all the above.

But here’s the good news: we’re back on track.

I finally worked out a plan that made sense, stopped catastrophizing every little scheduling setback, and found a way to get us back in rhythm. Third quarter was all about adjusting, settling, and shaking off the stress. Now, we’re in a place where things feel a little calmer, a little more manageable, and—dare I say—actually enjoyable again.

Third Quarter Wins: Art, Fun & Finding Our Groove Again

The best part? We’ve made space for the good stuff again.
🎨 Art projects are back.
🎲 Family game time is happening.
🏡 Our home finally feels like home.

For months, we were in survival mode—doing the bare minimum just to keep things moving. Now, we’re not just catching up on school, we’re enjoying it again. That, to me, is the biggest win of all.

And let’s talk about how long January lasted. Forever. Meanwhile, February disappeared in a blink. Time is weird, and I’m just trying to keep up.

Homeschool Updates: Progress, Plans & Moving Forward

On the academic side, things are moving right along.

📖 Required reading? Done. (With some gentle, firm nudging.)
📜 Poetry program? Loving it.
🧮 Math? My youngest is crushing division, and my oldest is thriving since switching to Denison Algebra—best. decision. ever.
📝 Spelling? Franken-spelling is working, blending the best of All About Spelling in a way that makes sense for us.
🎬 Film study? Surprisingly fun! Watching classics, analyzing storytelling, and seeing my kids make connections between movies and history is such a cool experience.

And in case you were wondering—yes, my house is finally box-free. That alone feels like a massive accomplishment.

Looking Ahead: Fourth Quarter & Spring Energy

As we wrap 3rd quarter and look toward the final stretch, I’m feeling optimistic—something I wasn’t sure I’d be able to say a few months ago.

Spring is right around the corner, which means:
🌸 Longer days and more sunshine (a game-changer for my mood).
🎭 Spring theater productions for my oldest.
🍪 Cookie season because we’re all about that Girl Scout life.
📚 Final homeschool stretch—pushing through those last lessons while making space for fun.

Will we finish our school year in time for a spring vacation? Maybe. But if not, we’ll adjust. Because if this homeschool year has taught me anything, it’s the importance of flexibility and grace.

Final Thoughts: The Big Win of 3rd Quarter

This year has been a rollercoaster—one that tested my patience, challenged my expectations, and reminded me why we do this in the first place. But we made it.

Wrapping 3rd quarter feels like a victory in itself.
✔️ We’re back on track.
✔️ We’re finding joy in learning again.
✔️ We’re embracing the season ahead with excitement, not exhaustion.
