As we start winding down our homeschool year, the buzz of upcoming adventures, travel plans, and long sunny days is definitely setting in. But before we pack away the books entirely, we’ve been mixing in a little hands-on learning with our family fun, and honestly, it’s been the best blend of both worlds.

Wrapping Up Homeschool the Fun Way
We’re not quite ready to call it the end of our homeschool year just yet, but we’re definitely shifting gears. This time of year, I like to lighten things up, follow more of a natural learning rhythm, and focus on exploring new places while we still have some structure in our days. Because let’s be real—summer fun is near, and we’re trying to soak in every bit of sunshine and freedom that we can while still getting in those last few lessons.
Our Texas-Sized Adventure: San Antonio!
When you’ve been deep in Texas history all year, there’s something special about living the learning. We took a road trip to San Antonio recently, and it was just what we needed. Summer fun is near, but this trip gave us that sweet spot between field trip and family vacation. From missions to museums, our days were full—but in the best way possible.
Of course, no trip to San Antonio is complete without a walk along the River Walk and a stop at the Alamo. There’s something about standing in a place you’ve only read about that makes it all click. And honestly? It makes the heat worth it. (Mostly.)
Missions, Memories, and Junior Ranger Badges
Did you know San Antonio is home to five beautiful Spanish missions? It’s part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ve been before, but this time we visited a few new ones: Mission Concepción and Mission San Juan. They’re peaceful, stunning, and full of history—and yes, they tie in perfectly with our Texas studies.
The girls were working toward their Junior Ranger badges (which is a homeschool win and a parenting win, in my book). It was such a great way to stay engaged and connect what we’ve learned at home with real-life experience.
Ending on a Splash: SeaWorld Homeschool Day
To close out the trip, we hit up SeaWorld’s Homeschool Day. Y’all—it’s such a fun way to learn and play. Summer fun is near, but this gave us a boost of excitement to carry us through these final homeschool weeks. We got to see animals up close, chat with educators, and even sneak in a few souvenirs for good measure.

With the end of our homeschool year in sight, summer fun is near—and that means looser schedules, more spontaneous learning, and a lot more sunshine. Whether we’re heading out on day trips or just soaking up slow mornings at home, this season always brings a shift I look forward to.
