If you haven’t heard yet, Texas passed House Bill 3041, and starting in the fall of 2026, homeschool students will now qualify for automatic admission to Texas public universities based on their SAT and ACT scores.

Since public school students have class rankings to help determine eligibility, this update means test scores just became one of the most important factors for homeschoolers. Whether your teen plans to attend college in Texas or elsewhere, this change signals a bigger shift in how homeschool students are evaluated for college acceptance.

You can find several free apps in the Google Play and Apple App Stores that make test prep portable and easy:

ACT.org – Official ACT Resources

Since this is the official ACT site, it’s the best place to start for ACT prep. You’ll find test dates, registration info, and plenty of free practice materials, including practice exams, study guides, and quiz tools like “Quiz Me.”

Homeschoolers can register directly through the ACT website without going through a public school, which makes this an essential resource.

The College Board – Official SAT Resources

The College Board runs the SAT (and AP exams), so it’s your go-to for free SAT prep straight from the source. Their site includes:

It can take a little digging to find the free materials, but they’re there and worth the effort.

Khan Academy – Partnered with the College Board

Khan Academy is one of my favorite free SAT ACT prep tools because it partners directly with the College Board. That means their SAT practice questions, full-length exams, and study plans are fully aligned with the real test.

The Princeton Review

The Princeton Review offers a wide range of free SAT and ACT resources, including practice tests and online events. While they do have paid tutoring options, their free tests and college advice sections are valuable on their own.

Kaplan

Kaplan is another trusted name in test prep. While their main focus is paid courses, you can still find free practice tests by scrolling to the bottom of their SAT and ACT pages.

PrepScholar offers detailed explanations of SAT and ACT scoring, plus several free practice resources and trial options for their paid programs. Even if you don’t buy a course, their blog and guides are full of practical advice.

Magoosh

Magoosh has a great mix of free SAT and ACT prep materials, from apps to practice tests.
