Our First Day Of 2023-2024

Welcome back to Making Everyday Magic! I’m Shanna, and I’m thrilled to have you join us as we embark on the exciting journey of our seventh year of homeschooling. Today marks the start of the 2023-2024 school year, and we’re ready to dive into a day filled with learning, exploration, and family connections.

Our First Day Of 2023 2024

Starting the Day

As the sun begins to rise, our homeschooling family of four is ready to embrace the challenges and adventures of a new academic year. The anticipation is palpable as we prepare for our first “Mom and Me Monday.” But before we get started, let’s set the mood with a cup of coffee and some uplifting tunes from the incredible Vitamin String Quartet.

I have timestamps to our day and everything is linked down below.

Here’s our schedule for 6th grade and for 2nd grade.

Setting the Vibe

I’ve learned that creating a warm and inviting atmosphere is crucial for a successful homeschool day. A little detail like a Dr. Seuss quote on our whiteboard brings positive energy to our learning space. With the kids’ favorite breakfast and a quick check of their chore charts, we’re all set to dive into our day.

Reflecting on Summer

Before we jump into the schoolwork, let’s take a moment to reflect on our wonderful summer. This year, I’m not plagued with the usual post-summer regrets or what-ifs. We spent quality time swimming, reading, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. The focus on simplicity has brought a sense of contentment that I haven’t felt before. And guess what? We’re ready to carry this mindset into the school year.

Our First Lessons

Our curriculum choices for this year reflect our values and priorities. We start the day with Mythology Crash Course, an engaging and educational way to kick off our morning. The Crash Course series offers a comprehensive approach that covers a wide range of subjects. I’m thrilled that my children can learn and absorb information in such an enjoyable way.

Big History and State Study

Another gem in our curriculum lineup is the Big History Project, offered through Khan Academy. It’s a comprehensive and engaging course that encompasses multiple facets of history, science, and culture. We’re also diving into state studies, exploring each state’s geography, facts, and culture. This dynamic approach keeps the learning experience exciting and interactive.

Taking Breaks and Enjoying Together

Throughout the day, we prioritize balance and breaks. While one child is engrossed in pre-algebra, I enjoy quality reading time with the other. We also integrate Spanish lessons, which are interactive and enjoyed as a family. We strive to make every subject engaging and interactive, keeping the learning experience enjoyable and productive.

Reflecting on the Day

As the clock strikes 10:53, we wrap up our first day of the new school year. The sense of accomplishment is tangible, and everyone is in good spirits. From pre-algebra to grammar, state studies to science, every subject was tackled with enthusiasm and engagement. I’ve taken notes on how our day flowed, making adjustments to ensure a smoother experience in the future.

Final Thoughts

This first day back has been a resounding success. The children are excited, the curriculum is engaging, and the family connections are strong. As we wind down and reflect on the day, I’m reminded of the magic that homeschooling brings to our lives. This is just the beginning of an incredible year filled with growth, learning, and shared moments.
