Last Look At Our Kit 📚 | How Our Timberdoodle 7th Grade Curriculum Held Up
I think this is going to be it, guys. The 2024-2025 school year is wrapping up, which means it’s time for a Last Look At Our Kit! We’ve been using the Timberdoodle Non-Religious 7th Grade Curriculum Kit, and now that we’re near the end, I have thoughts. Lots of them.

How We Got Here
If you’ve been around for a while, you know we’ve been using Timberdoodle kits for years—since my oldest was in second grade! That means this is our sixth year using Timberdoodle, and honestly, they came into our lives when we really needed them. We were brand new to fully rogue homeschooling, coming off of a distance-learning situation that just wasn’t the right fit, and I had no idea where to start.
Finding Timberdoodle was like a sigh of relief. They aren’t a curriculum company, but a curator of curriculum, which means they pull together a mix of resources and materials each year. Their non-religious kit gave us a solid foundation while letting us customize what worked best for our family. And now? We’ve been at this long enough to know what we love, what we skip, and what’s worth tweaking.
Kit Deets & Customization
One of the best things about Timberdoodle kits is that they come in three levels:
✔ Basic – Just the essentials like math and language arts.
✔ Complete – A step up with extra resources.
✔ Elite – The whole deal, down to the specialty pencil sharpeners.
But there’s a fourth option—customization! And that’s what we do. We pick and choose what works, ditch what doesn’t, and make it fit our homeschool style.

What Held Up & What Didn’t
Let’s talk about what we actually used from our 7th-grade Timberdoodle kit this year!
✔ Fisher Technik STEM Set – This was amazing. We reviewed it a few years ago, and it still holds up.
✔ Survival Camp with Bear Grylls – Not something I would have picked, but my kids are obsessed. If you need to know how to survive a rampaging elephant, this is your book.
✔ Simply Draw with Bob Parsons – Picture sitting with a caricature artist on the San Antonio Riverwalk and getting a masterclass in cartoon drawing. That’s what this feels like. It’s weird. It’s wonderful. And it works.
✔Film School 4 Teens – This one surprised me. It’s been a great resource for understanding film production and has sparked new interests in my kids. We’ll be looking at more courses like this next year.
✔ World History Detective – A solid resource that we’ve enjoyed, but we’re still deciding if we’ll continue with this approach.
✔ Know Your Body – These science books break down big concepts into bite-sized, engaging activities. Love them.
✔ Smart Games & Logic Puzzles – Timberdoodle always includes fantastic single-player logic games, which can be hard to find. These are winners every year.
And then, of course, there were things we didn’t use or skipped: some language arts picks, science books we didn’t click with, and extras that just didn’t make it into our routine. But that’s the beauty of customizing—we get what we need and don’t stress the rest.
Why We Keep Coming Back
Beyond the materials, Timberdoodle’s customer service is top-notch. Anytime I’ve had a question (even on weekends!), they’ve been responsive and helpful. And don’t even get me started on Kit Day—the annual curriculum launch in late April that feels like the Super Bowl of homeschool shopping. It’s exciting, it’s fun, and yes, it’s when I start planning the next school year.
So, as we take this Last Look At Our Kit, I can confidently say that Timberdoodle still works for us. It’s evolved with our needs, helped us find new interests, and continues to be a resource we love. Will we get another kit next year? Absolutely. Will we customize it? Of course. That’s just how we roll.
