Expo With Me: A Journey at the Texas Homeschool Expo

Room Tour

Hey everyone, welcome to my Expo Vlog! I want to start by sharing a little about my room. It’s cute and spacious with a couch, table, desk, TV, and fridge. I’ve already set up my workspace so I can stay productive during my stay. This is my first time traveling without any of my family members, which is quite an adventure for me.

Day 1 Recap

Tuesday, May 21st, was the first day of the Texas Homeschool Expo, and it was amazing. I arrived just after 10:00 AM, and the place was bustling with people. The energy was incredible, with a huge crowd gathered for the event.

I attended three different sessions today. The first was by Barefoot University, which was very informative, though I was disappointed to learn there’s no Barefoot University community near Houston. The second session focused on the importance of a second language for learners, sponsored by a teacher from Outschool. It was fantastic and very insightful.

For lunch, I treated myself to a solo date at the Gristmill in Gruene. This charming restaurant, set in an old mill with stunning views of the Texas Hill Country, was the perfect place to relax. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent.

In the afternoon, I attended a session about college and its costs. Even after eight years of homeschooling, I found it incredibly informative. The Expo featured a wide range of exhibitors, from the San Antonio Zoo and Briscoe Art Museum to Texas Home Educators and various homeschool curriculum providers. It was wonderful to see such a variety of resources available for homeschoolers.

I also met Mendy from Oklahoma, who asked about foreign language resources for kids. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

The next day, I spokeg at the Expo, and was able to record my sessions to share with you all. Being the first speaker of the day means I can get in early and set everything up. It’s going to be amazing!

Day 2

Good morning! I woke up early because I don’t sleep well in hotels. I’m getting ready for the day, starting with makeup and hair. Since I’m here alone, it’s nice to have all my things neatly set out without anyone disturbing them.

I’m both excited and nervous for my speaking sessions. I’ve carefully chosen my outfit to match my brand colors. After breakfast, I’ll head downstairs for my first session. This is also my first time being away from all three of my family members overnight, which feels wild but liberating.

Knowing that everything is under control at home allows me to fully enjoy this experience. I’ve been able to watch shows, edit videos, and meet amazing people at the Expo without any worries.

Tech Sweats

Trying to set up all my tech equipment on an old laptop. Figuring out how to connect it to the projector is a bit of a challenge, but I’ve managed to get the internet and visual projection working, which is a good start.

Round 2

After a quick lunch and a touch-up of my makeup, I’m ready for my second session. Despite being nervous and having a minor mishap with the clicker during my first session, it went amazingly well, thanks to the help of a sweet assistant.

Final Thoughts

I’ve completed both of my sessions, met fantastic people, and had an incredible time. I’m not an expert, just someone passionate about homeschooling and eager to share what I’ve learned. I’m grateful to everyone who supports me and shares their insights.

A huge shoutout to Jasmine for organizing this inclusive Expo. I hope to attend more in the future, possibly even in Houston. This experience has been incredible, and I’m thankful for the opportunity.
